Louis Powell and the
Jazz Wizzards
The Jazz Wizzards was a Chicago-based band led by Richard Marigny “My Knee” Jones in the 1920s and 1930s. Jones was born in 1882 and grew up in New Orleans. After moving to Chicago in 1918, he began working in the recording industry and made records both as a piano soloist and with his bands for a number of labels including Paramount, Gennett, Okeh and Victor. In addition to his own recordings, he is known for producing recordings made by the Hot Five and Hot Seven led by Louis Armstrong. See Wikipedia for a few additional details and Richard M. Jones: Forgotten Man of Jazz” by Christopher Hillman for a more detailed biography and discography.
