This is one of Billy’s solo efforts for MGM records, and was a hit for him in the late 1940s. It has a theatrical feel–quite different from the big band recordings of his contemporaries.

Open the Door Polka
November 14, 2015
By joycejohnston
“Open the Door Polka” sounds like the sound track from an old Mighty Mouse cartoon, with Pearl Pureheart behind the door and the evil Oil Can Harry trying to get her to open it. In this song, however, Pearl doesn’t end up tied to the railroad tracks. Vocals by Judy Valentine and Phil Goulding. For another take on getting someone to open a door, check out “Open the Door, Richard” wonderfully performed by R&B singers The Three Flames.
